Joe Jones

Joe Jones serves as the Director of Research and Insights for the IAPP, whose mission is to define, promote and improve the professions of privacy, AI governance and digital responsibility globally.

Mr. Jones provides strategic direction and contributes to the development of practical content for professionals working on privacy, AI governance, and digital responsibility more broadly. His work includes engaging with leaders from industry, government, academia and civil society.

Previously, Mr. Jones was a senior official with the UK Government, where he led the teams responsible data and digital trade policy, serving as the principal negotiator on international data policy matters, such as data adequacy, with the EU, United States, and other international governments. relating to free and secure flow of data internationally. Prior to the UK Government, Mr. Jones practised law with Covington & Burling LLP, advising clients on a range of technology laws and policies.

Mr. Jones has been globally recognized as a leader in digital law and policy. In 2022, Politico named him as the fourth most influential ‘rulemaker’ in Europe as well as the Digital policy ‘Wonk of the week’ in September of 2021.
